Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue are Pantone 2016 color of the year! Pantone, the leading authority on color, made the announcement early this morning.
It’s twins! This is the first time Pantone has chosen two colors to share the spotlight.
This is a softer take on color for 2016 and I LOVE it!
A family lake house out in Otis, MA was in desperate need of a furniture update. The two This End Up (can you say indestructible?) sofas were sporting plaid cushions from the 80’s.
We selected this super-durable woven in shades of blues with a touch of red to recover the cushions.
Red is the color we pay the most attention to. It’s the most energetic color, it’s hot and dramatic.
Red is the color of love, passion, and desire; red hearts, red roses.
A “red-letter day” is terrific; wearing a “scarlet letter” marks you as untouchable.
On the flip side, red is for danger, speed, and anger.
Today is National Wear Red Day. The American Heart Association’s campaign “Go Red For Women” brings attention to heart disease and stroke in women.

Yesterday Pantone, the leading authority on color, announced Marsala as their pick for Color of the Year 2015. They describe Marsala as “A natural robust and earthly wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and souls”. Pantone.com
At first I thought it was in the brown family so I got out my Pantone color deck.
A new, smaller house with less maintenance and closer proximity to their children was an adjustment for this Sterling, MA couple.
Working with them for over 21 years, they are more than clients.

I love green decorating! I see green as a neutral that enhances everything else.
Let’s have some fun today and play This or That. I’ll show you two rooms decorated with green and you pick your favorite.

I love the combination of the vibrant magenta pink with grays and beiges. It’s a great pairing of neutrals with a pop of excitement after all PINK home decorating adds a little drama to every room.
Sea shells are abundant on the beaches of Cape Cod, sea glass not so much. It’s the thrill of the hunt that keeps me searching for a rare tumbled smooth shard of glass. What I’m really attracted to is the cool shades of greens and blues.

Here it is the middle of June and it is only 54 degrees out with a steady rain. It’s a cup of hot tea and sweatshirt kind of afternoon. The pace of life begins to slow on Friday afternoons. Our house takes on a different atmosphere than other evenings of the week.
The following article was originally written for my E-zine ~Beautiful Home and Life Design~ to educate my clients on why the colors we choose to decorate with have an emotional effect on how we feel in the room.
Color has the power to change our mood
Color enTergizes, it calms, it soothes, it provokes, it stabilizes, it softens, and it creates chaos. Playing with color is playing with your emotions. We use color to lift our spirits, to inspire us and to make our homes feel safe and warm.

A custom tangerine tango asymmetric valance is ready for installation in a Shrewsbury, MA home. Unless using decorative hardware, most custom window treatments mount onto a dust board that attaches to the wall. I believe every aspect of a window treatment should be custom so I cover the board with matching fabric.
